Benjamin Franklin was born in January 17, 1706 in Boston and unfortunately died in April 17, 1790 at the age of eighty-four. Twenty-thousand people attended his funeral. He was the sixth president of the United States of America. Ben had seventeen siblings including him.

Ben Franklin invented the swim fins.  At the age of twelve Ben wanted to invent something that would make him swim faster. So he studied the frog and made a model of its feet. “At that moment his idea for swimming flippers was born.”

The main reason Ben made the swim fins was because he loved swimming and he wanted to swim faster like the amphibians. Other reasons people use swimming fins is because they help you concentrate on the coordination of your arms and legs. The swim fins extend your legs while swimming which can help you in specific types of swimming styles. When you use the swim fins it helps your muscle, and it’s a great work out.

Benjamin’s first swimming fins were made out of wood and he made it in an oval shape for his hands.  It had a hole for his thumb for a good grip.  The wood swimming fins were not useful, but that set the path for others to continue. After Benjamin Franklin two other men named Owen Churchill and Frenchman Louis de Corlieu made the next swimming fins.
